About Me
My name is Andrea
Folts. I was born in Chicago, Illinois. I left Chicago in 1982, traveled
the US and abroad, lived in Mexico, on Whidbey Island, WA, and now
reside just outside of Tucson, Arizona.
The mediums I have worked in are pencil, acrylics, and oil pastels.
My work has been shown and sold in galleries in Mexico, the Seattle
area, and now in Tucson, Arizona. My work is in private homes in Mexico,
Hawaii, Nevada, Washington, New Jersey, Montana, and Arizona.
Over the years I have worked in different mediums. I studied art and
drawing at Edmonds and Everett Community Colleges, in Washington State.
I also studied under individual artists, and learned more about art from
these wonderful artists whose work I found fascinating and exciting. I
now teach drawing classes in Green Valley, Arizona.
I began my work drawing with pencil seeking perfection in my rendition,
until finally I discovered that I would only feel accomplished finding a
style of my own. I discovered that art was not about perfection, but
about taking risks, and remaining positive. So I let go and allowed
myself permission to experiment. I started to have fun.
My husband and I moved to the Yucatan where we resided for 8 years. It
was there that I taught myself to paint. The Mayans introduced me to
innocence, and a primitive, childlike attitude which they expressed
through their art form. This gave me the permission to discover those
qualities in myself. Soon I began showing, and selling my paintings in a
resort area, a Mayan village in Akumal. I discovered that many people
were very excited about the intensity of color, and the imagination I
was displaying, and so I continued on.
Many people have questions about what real art is. It is my personal
belief that art is about imagination, and what you as the viewer likes,
and/or moves you. I am hopeful that my work will move you in some way,
and that you will enjoy the color, and the imagination involved in
creating each piece.
I wish to give special thanks to my husband Victor for all his
encouragement, and support, and to Aunt Git, Rae Claybourne, John
Simpson, Bobbie Rodden, and Giovanni Avashadur for their teachings, and
support.
